Independent Candidate Nickie Kane Exposes Vandalism and Corruption by Brooklyn Democratic Party Machine

Independent candidate Nickie Kane announced today that several of her campaign posters were ripped down in an act of vandalism. In one instance, a poster for Zellnor “Bail Reform” Myrie was found in place of hers own. While Myrie’s poster was replaced, Nickie Kane opted to leave Myrie’s poster intact, explaining, “We’re not even running for the same position—and more importantly, he is no threat to my candidacy.”

Nickie Kane Declines Candidate Forum Invitation moderated By Ben Max of Max Politics, Stands Firm in Commitment to Grassroots Campaign for NYC City Council District 39

“My campaign has always been about the people of this district, not the deep pockets of outside interests,” said Kane. “Each and every signature collected to get me on the ballot was personally gathered, and I am proud that my campaign is driven by my own determination and dedication—not by corporate donors or special interest groups. I like looking the people of the district in the eye and hearing their stories and finding out what they need.”

Help Us Fight for Truly Affordable Housing and Democracy in NYC Support Nickie Kane for NYC Council, District 39

Too many New Yorkers are being priced out of their own neighborhoods, and what we call “affordable housing” often isn’t affordable at all. Under current guidelines, families need to earn up to $100,000+ to qualify for “affordable” apartments—leaving behind seniors, single parents, working-class families, and thousands more who make our city function. I dive deeper into this in “The Outrageous Income Requirements for NYC’s Affordable Housing Lottery: A Struggle for Many”.

Kicked Off the Ballot—Again: Why the NYC Board of Elections Is Failing Democracy

I am running for Member of the New York City Council from the 39th Council District in Brooklyn. This is my second campaign—and the second time I’ve had to fight just to stay on the ballot. The New York City Board of Elections (BOE) has once again tried to disqualify me on a technicality, continuing a troubling pattern of undermining grassroots candidates and favoring establishment-backed ones.

The NYC City Council’s Missed Opportunity for 100% Affordable Housing

New York City is grappling with a severe housing affordability crisis. In response, a proposal was introduced to build 100% affordable housing on city-owned land. However, instead of passing the bill as it stood, the NYC City Council voted to modify it, allowing only a portion of the units to be affordable. This decision has raised concerns by NYC City Council Candidate Nickie Kane and advocates and residents alike.

The Outrageous Income Requirements for NYC’s Affordable Housing Lottery: A Struggle for Many

New York City’s affordable housing lottery offers a glimpse of hope for residents who otherwise cannot afford the city’s skyrocketing rent. The city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) runs the lottery, which grants access to apartments that are priced well below the market rate. This system is crucial in a city where median rents regularly surpass $3,000 per month.

Every time she turned the corner of 9th Street and 5th Avenue she felt her blood boil. Why couldn’t she just reply? Nickie had emailed her City Council member Shahana Hanif multiple times to no avail. The NYC Department of Transportation had changed the traffic light signals to show walk in all four directions. Pedestrians were confused and walking in front of traffic and not knowing how to respond to this new configuration. Several times people had walked in front of her while her vehicle was in motion. This was enough to set the wheels in motion and Nickie decided to run for city council office.
