Help Us Fight for Truly Affordable Housing and Democracy in NYC
Support Nickie Kane for NYC Council, District 39

I’m Nickie Kane, and I’m running to represent you as Member of the New York City Council from the 39th Council District in Kings County. This is my second time running—and I’m not giving up, even after being kicked off the ballot the first time over a technicality that exposed just how broken our democratic process is.

In 2023, I was removed from the ballot because I mistakenly wrote that I was running for “NYC City Council” instead of “Member of the NYC City Council.” That’s it. That one line—buried in an otherwise valid application—was enough for the Board of Elections to toss out the voices of thousands of voters who supported me. As I wrote in “Kicked Off the Ballot (Again): Why the NYC Board of Elections is Failing Democracy”, this wasn’t about protecting the integrity of the process—it was about protecting entrenched power.

I’m running again because the people of this city deserve a real choice—and real change.

Too many New Yorkers are being priced out of their own neighborhoods, and what we call “affordable housing” often isn’t affordable at all. Under current guidelines, families need to earn up to $100,000+ to qualify for “affordable” apartments—leaving behind seniors, single parents, working-class families, and thousands more who make our city function. I dive deeper into this in “The Outrageous Income Requirements for NYC’s Affordable Housing Lottery: A Struggle for Many”.

We need to build not just more housing—but truly affordable housing. Housing that reflects the incomes of everyday New Yorkers, not just the lucky few. That means shifting the priorities away from luxury developers and toward community-driven planning.

As a grassroots candidate, I am not beholden to real estate lobbyists or political machines. I am loyal to the people of this district. I live here. I’ve struggled here. I’ve fought here. And I will continue to fight for policies that lift up our neighbors, not push them out.

“We don’t need more politicians who protect power—we need representatives who protect people.” – Nickie Kane

“Affordable housing should not be a lottery you lose just because you’re a teacher, a nurse, or a single parent.” – Nickie Kane

This campaign is powered by small donors and everyday people—not big corporations or political insiders. If you believe that democracy should be fair, and housing should be truly affordable, I’m asking for your support.

Donate today and help us get on the ballot—and into City Hall. Every dollar helps us print flyers, talk to voters, and challenge a system that’s built to keep candidates like me off the ballot.
